South Africa is expected to record a stronger maize harvest in the 2025/26 season, with production forecast at 17.52 million metric tons, according to the government’s Crop Estimates Committee (CEC).
The latest estimate represents a 5.2% increase from the 16.65 million tons harvested in the previous season. It is also slightly above the CEC’s August forecast of 17.4 million tons.
White and yellow maize
The projected harvest comprises:
9.61 million tons of white maize, primarily used for human consumption.
7.91 million tons of yellow maize, mainly used as animal feed.
