Johannesburg — South Africa has reappointed Mteto Nyati as chairman of state power utility Eskom for another three years, Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said on Friday.
Nyati, who first took over as Eskom board chairman in 2023, had been scheduled to leave the position at the end of October when his current term expires.
The Cabinet approved his reappointment, extending his leadership of the utility as Eskom continues efforts to strengthen its operations and financial position and support improvements in South Africa’s electricity supply.
The decision provides continuity at the board level as the government works to address Eskom’s longstanding operational and financial challenges, which have had significant implications for businesses, households and the broader South African economy.
