Tripoli — Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Sunday that it had restarted the first refining units at the Zawiya refinery after crude oil flows resumed through the main Sharara-Zawiya pipeline.
The restart followed the reopening of valve 7, which had been closed by an armed group on September 21, disrupting the flow of crude to the refinery.
Crude pumping has now resumed through the pipeline, allowing refinery operations to restart, the NOC said.
The Zawiya refinery, one of Libya’s key refining facilities, is important to the country’s domestic fuel supply and broader oil infrastructure. Interruptions to crude flows can put pressure on fuel availability and increase operational risks across the downstream sector.
Libya’s oil industry has repeatedly faced disruptions linked to political instability, security incidents and control over energy infrastructure. The latest development highlights the continued sensitivity of the country’s oil supply chain to interruptions along key pipelines and facilities.
