Kenya’s economy expanded by 5.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from the 4.9% growth recorded in the same period last year, according to data released by the country’s statistics office on Friday.
The improved performance was supported by strong activity across several key sectors, particularly transportation and storage, as well as accommodation and food services.
The transportation and storage sector grew by 4.4% in the second quarter, up from 3.3% in the corresponding period of 2025, reflecting its contribution to the country’s broader economic activity.
Other sectors that recorded notable growth included electricity, information and communication technology, financial services and construction.
The latest figures point to continued economic expansion in East Africa’s largest economy, with activity across services, infrastructure and other productive sectors supporting growth.
However, sustaining this momentum will depend on continued investment, stable economic conditions and the ability of businesses to navigate operating costs and broader economic pressures.
