Seoul — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will make a state visit to South Korea from October 7 to 9, Seoul’s presidential office said on Tuesday.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Egypt and South Korea to strengthen bilateral relations and explore areas of economic and strategic cooperation.

Sisi's visit comes as both countries seek to deepen ties across trade, investment, infrastructure, technology and other sectors of mutual interest.

South Korea has maintained growing economic engagement with African markets, while Egypt remains one of the continent’s largest economies and an important gateway between Africa, the Middle East and global markets.

Why it matters

A high-level visit between Egypt and South Korea could create opportunities for increased investment, technology partnerships and trade between the two countries.

For Egypt, closer economic ties with South Korea could support industrial development and attract investment into sectors where Korean companies have expertise. For South Korea, stronger engagement with Egypt offers access to one of Africa’s largest consumer markets and a strategic hub connecting African, Middle Eastern and international trade routes.
