Cairo — Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that eight Egyptian crew members held aboard the hijacked M/T Eureka oil tanker have been released, bringing relief to their families and authorities following months of uncertainty.
The tanker was hijacked in May off Yemen’s Shabwa province after unidentified armed men boarded the vessel, according to Yemen’s coast guard at the time.
The release of the Egyptian nationals marks a significant development in a case highlighting the continuing security risks facing commercial shipping around Yemen and nearby waters.
